Black Kats Prevail in The Battle of Fredericton

Top ranked Fredericton High School Were pushed to the limit by their rivals from the North Side, but managed to win a hard fought battle with the Lions 71 – 65 in front of a great crowd on Saturday night at TD Station.
It was the #5 ranked Leo Hayes Lions that got the early jump on the Black Kats and after the first quarter the Lion were up 25 – 20. Fredericton High could only manage 17 points in the second but they relied on their defence to hold the Lions to 14, as the teams went into halftime with the Leo Hayes Lions ahead 39 – 37.
The third quarter would see a the two combatants hold each other to under 20 points in the quarter as FHS put up 19 and they again held the Lions to 14. It was now FHS in the lead 56 – 53 with just 10 minutes to go. The Lions were fighting a little could trouble and gave it everything that they had, but the FHS Black Kats were just a little better on this night and they outscored the Lions 15 – 12 in the fourth and win the game 71 – 65.
Fredericton High were led by Owen Blacquier with his 24 points and 5 assists. Blacquier picked up Player of the Game honours. Lance Mombourquette added 18 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 assists. Liam Wallace also chipped in with 10 points for the Black Kats.
The Leo Hayes Lions were led by their Player of the Game, Sam Gallagher, who scored a game high 27 points and collected 14 rebounds for the double-double. Matt Gillis and Quinn Campbell each added 8 points for the Lions
