Woodstock Late Rally Wins Title

The Woodstock Thunder overcame a fourth quarter deficit to defeat the Rothesay High Redhawks 71 – 66 to win their 13th Girls AA championship. The Thunder found themselves down 3 entering the fourth but climbed back to overtake Rothesay in the final minutes.

The two teams got off to a slow start before Woodstock started to get a few shots to fall and the Thunder led by a score of 14 – 6 after ten minutes. The lead started to build but part way through the second quarter the Redhawks started to find their groove as Rothesay outscored Woodstock 20 – 15 in the period and Woodstock’s lead at halftime was 29 – 26.

Rothesay continued their run into the third quarter as the Hawks outpaced the Woodstock 22 – 16 in the third and now it was Rothesay that had the lead heading into the fourth as they were up 48 – 45. In the fourth, it would be Woodstock outscoring the Hawks 26 – 18 as the Thunder win the game and the championship 71 – 66.

Woodstock wed led by their player of the game Danielle Alexander who scored 22 points and collected 18 rebounds for the double-double. Haley Hemphill chipped in with 18 and 7 rebounds, while Charley Jones contributed 13 points in the winning cause. For Rothesay, it was grade 9 standout and RHS player of the game, Neve Pearson as she scored a game high 30 points and grabbed 9 boards. NBIAA Southwest AA player of the year, Grace Tilley added 22 points for the Redhawks.
