Through three quarters, this thing was tight as a drum.
The Harvey High Lakers, however, played some big-time music in the fourth quarter.
Harvey outscored Hartland Community School, 19-4 in the pivotal final frame and downed the Huskies, 63-44 to win the New Brunswick single A girls’ Final 12 championship at Saint John’s Harbour Station on Friday.
The game kicked off February Frenzy in the province with six divisional title games up for grabs at the downtown Port City arena.
The win came after Harvey had lost two straight provincial title games.
Ava Grieve had 17 points and five rebounds to spark Harvey. Kate MacLean dropped 14 and had five boards. Casey DeMerchant scored six and collected five rebounds and Isabelle Daigle also had six.
Laura Nancekievill popped 13 for the Huskies. Taylor Oakes scored 11 and Paige Brown had seven points and 13 rebounds. Morgan Buchanan had half a dozen points.
Hartland started quickly, owners of an 11-3 lead after a quarter before Harvey outscored the Huskies 24-11 in the second for a 27-22 halftime lead. The Lakers clung to a 41-39 lead entering the fourth before erupting.
