Black Kats Cruise to 26th Title

The Fredericton High School Black Kats pick up title #26 in AAA Girls basketball as they cruise to victory over the Moncton High School Purple Knights 83 – 47 at TD Station this afternoon in Saint John.

The first quarter was a close back and forth game early on, then the Kats went on a min run to take the first period 17 – 13. The game was decided in the 2nd quarter as the mighty Black Kats exploded for 31 points and help the Moncton girls to just 6. It was 48 – 19 at halftime.

The third quarter would be Moncton’s best as they dropped 17 points in the period. Fredericton scored 19 of their own to take the quarter by 2 and now their lead was 31 as they would head into the fourth, up 67 – 36. The final quarter would go to the Kats as well as they outpaced Moncton 16 – 11 for the 83 – 47 win and FHS laid claim to their 26th Provincial Banner.

Fredericton were led by their NBIAA Southwest AAA Girls Player of the Year and All-Star, Kristen Taylor, who scored 21 points, collected 8 rebounds and snagged 5 steals for Player of the game honours All-Star, Eavan McLaughlin added 17 points and 7 rebounds and their third All-Star, Addie Mombourquette chipped in with 16 points. For Moncton High it was their All-Star, Brooke Watson who scored 16 points and had 12 rebounds to pick up the Player of the game award. NBIAA Northeast AAA Girls Player of the Year, Lindsay Black also popped in 16 points for Moncton in a losing cause.
