NBIAA Final 12

A Boy’s Championship Preview

This was the game we expected last year until the Warriors from McAdam had something to say about it. Fast forward a year and now the 2019-2020 version of the Single A boys Championship game will involve the same schools as the Girls game just before it. The atmosphere will be electric, who will shine on the big stage as the Hartland Huskies and Harvey Lakers Part II kicks off Saturday afternoon at TD Station.

The boy’s title game will have the #4 Hartland Community School Huskies versus the #1 ranked Harvey High Lakers. Hartland is the defending champs and will be in search of their 7th Single A title. For Harvey, they are looking for a little revenge for missing out a year ago. The Lakers have 7 titles and will go after number 8. A win on Saturday would give them 4 in the last 6 years. 7 of the last 8 years we have seen one of these two schools win the championship. Single A basketball powerhouses going head to head. We love it.

The Hartland Huskies will be led by their All-Star, Damon McBrine. For the Harvey High Lakers, they will look to their All-Stars Logan Fraser-Cole and Owen Smith. Smith played U15 last season for New Brunswick at the Nationals held in Fredericton at the Currie Centre.

Hartland and Harvey have met two times this season. On December 20th, in a tournament in Harvey the Lakers really took it to the Hartland Huskies, winning by 26, 88 – 62. It would be a while before these two top dogs would meet again. In the Regional Final, things looked much closer as the Harvey Lakers prevailed again, but this time it was 75 – 69.

The Hartland Huskies play out of the West, let’s see how they got here. The Huskies were 5 – 1 in the West to finish in first place. They suffered a January loss to John Caldwell. At the Regional tournament, they would get league rival Nackawic in the Regional Semi-final game. Hartland would win 69 – 55. For their win, the Huskies would play the Harvey Lakers for the Regional final to see who would host sectionals. Have won the game 75 – 69 to send the Huskies to the North East Sectional. Hartland would arrive in Petitcodiac with some work to do to get to TD Station. In their first game against #5 ranked Belleisle Regional, they would be in a battle, but the Huskies won 83 – 71. The Hartland Huskies were now 1 win away from getting back to the Final 12 and defending their title. All that stood in their way was the Host and #2 ranked Petitcodiac Regional Panthers. HCS would only put up 73 points in this game but their stifling defense would surrender only 53. Big Win Huskies and off to TD Station they go.

The Harvey High Lakers played in the South. Harvey ran the table in the league going a perfect 10 – 0 to take the top spot. Before we get to their playoff run, their two most impressive games of the season came in wins over both AA Finalists; Tantramar 91 – 82 in tournament play and an exhibition win over Woodstock 76 – 63. At their Regional tournament in Hartland, Harvey would take out Sir James Dunn 88 – 49 in the semi-final before the regional final over Hartland 75 – 69. With Harvey hosting the South West Sectionals they defeated Chipman 107 – 84 in the semi-final and then took out Nackawic in the final by a score of 99 – 52. They erased last year’s disappointment and will play for the top prize in Single A Basketball.

This should be a game for the ages. Harvey, Hartland, two teams, One Goal. Don’t miss this one.
